How to get your restaurant listed on Google Maps (and get started with Google Reserve)

Imagine searching for a place near you to eat. You type it on Google and you immediately get a list of places in your area. You click on one of them and you’re taken to the map view. One of them has a big Reserve a table button. How quick was that from research to making a new booking?

Now imagine turning all these users casually browsing just like that into your new customers. You can seamlessly move their gaze from the street map to your menu and the book button. When all could be done right there and then, thanks to Reserve with Google, this might just be your quickest way to increase your restaurant bookings.

Did you know that there are ‘over one billion restaurant searches on Google every month’ with ‘food near me’ being one of the fastest-growing search terms? To put it simply, Google Maps gives restaurants the ability to tap into the one-billion-mobile-users-a-month market – and it drives action.

Reserve with Google lets users make reservations with just a few taps through Google Search, Maps or the Assistant. And you get your restaurant right where you want it to be – in front of the eyes of all those people hungrily browsing for their next dining spot. That is, boosted online visibility and more bookings for you.

As WalkUp is a Reserve with Google partner, you can enjoy seamless integration that gets you all this extra exposure. In fact, you can have all this sorted in just four quick steps. Let’s get right into it.

Step 1 Add your restaurant to Google

Start by creating a local Google+ page for your business. To do this, head to Google My Business and sign in with your Google account (you can use your gmail address).

Search for your restaurant by either name or address. If it’s not already listed you can click on “No, these are not my businesses” or “I’ve correctly entered the business” and submit your restaurant details.

Step 2 Verify your restaurant

Next, you’ll need to verify your business. Google might give you a few options on how to do that. One of the most popular ones is verifying your restaurant by postcard. To do that, Google will send you a postcard with the verification code to your restaurant's address.

Head back to your Google My Business page, select your restaurant and click on ‘Verify now.’ This will take you to the postcard request screen displaying your restaurant address. Double-check that’s correct before clicking on ‘Send Postcard’.

You need to ensure that you can receive mail at your restaurant's location before you start the Google listing process.

Step 3 Review

Now you’ve verified your restaurant on Google, it’s time to personalise its listing. You’ll be able to edit all of its information, so make sure it’s all correct, clear and up to date.

Check out the description, add mouthwatering images, upload your latest menus, and make sure your opening times are right.
